"Reclaiming the Memories of Ma Tei"
This work tells the story of a once-vibrant local community in Hong Kong - a place called Ma Tei. In the past, Ma Tei served as a sheltered haven for fishing boats, carrying with them the rich narratives of the surrounding community.
The tang of the ocean air still lingered, as the rhythmic sounds of crashing waves filled the scene. But over time, the steady march of reclamation and modernization gradually muffled the serenade of the sea.
Years have passed, and the question now arises - how much do we still know about Ma Tei and the stories it once held? This work invites us to journey back to the origins, to rediscover the message bottles once lost in the depths of the sea.
Through this process, we can reconnect with the messages and tales that lie buried beneath the storied beauty of Ma Tei. By reclaiming these fragmented memories, we can revive the vibrant spirit that once thrived in this community, honoring its unique heritage and the lived experiences of its people.
This work serves as a poignant reminder of the importance of preserving and cherishing the local narratives that shape the fabric of our communities, lest they become subsumed by the tides of progress.
